“My works on paper talk of those magnificent men and their killing machines fusing with suburban family values and consumerism. They seem diametrically opposed but I think otherwise. Little boys and girls grow up to be canon fodder. And war is cleverly packaged with plenty of spin and lofty rhetoric to sell to the masses, who swallow it whole, no matter how bad it is for someone else’s health.”

Paintings from the Archives of the Pleasantville Historical Society is the title of Jonah Samson‘s axhibition, currently on view at G. Gibson Gallery in Washington. In this series the artist adds his own twist to vintage photographs found on eBay.

In his parallel activities here, however, Dr Lakra transfers his draughtsmanship onto the idealised figures in 50’s Mexican magazines. Pin-up girls, wrestlers, beauties and cuties are tattooed and ‘enhanced’ in ink with bats, demons, spiders and the faces of pouting vixens.” More info here.
